Alamos Gold (NYSE: AGI) Faces Production Challenges, CIBC Lowers Price Target

  • Investment firm CIBC lowered its price target for Alamos Gold but maintained an "Outperform" rating, signaling continued confidence despite a reduced outlook.
  • Alamos Gold has revised down its second-quarter gold production forecast by approximately 12% due to operational disruptions at its Young-Davidson Mine.
  • The successful ramp-up of the Island Gold mine is increasingly vital for Alamos Gold's future growth amidst recent operational underperformance.

Alamos Gold (NYSE: AGI) is a Canadian-based gold producer with a diverse portfolio of mining operations. The company's primary activities involve gold production and exploration across North America, with key assets including the Young-Davidson and Island Gold mines in Canada, and the Mulatos mine in Mexico.

On June 20, 2026, investment firm CIBC lowered its price target on Alamos Gold to C$82.00 from C$90.00. A price target is an analyst's projection of a stock's future price. Despite this reduction, CIBC maintained its "Outperform" rating, indicating it still expects the gold mining stock to perform better than the overall market.

This revised outlook connects to recent operational difficulties. As highlighted by Zacks, Alamos Gold has lowered its production forecast for the second quarter due to challenges at its Young-Davidson Mine. The company cites two seismic events and unplanned power outages as the primary reasons for the disruption.

As a result, Alamos Gold now expects second-quarter production to be between 130,000 and 135,000 ounces, a decrease of about 12% from its earlier guidance. According to Proactive Investors, analysts at Jefferies note this marks three consecutive quarters of underperformance, increasing the urgency to restore operational consistency in its precious metals mining.

Amid these issues, the ramp-up at the Island Gold mine becomes more critical for the company's growth. At the time of the update, Alamos Gold stock was priced at $36.34. The stock has a 52-week range between $23.92 and $55.41 and a market capitalization of approximately $15.26 billion.
